Timo-Veikko “Tipi” Valve is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation performing as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader on both modern and period instruments. Valve studied at the Sibelius Academy in his home town of Helsinki and at the Edsberg Music Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, focusing in solo performance and chamber music in both institutions. In 2006 Valve was appointed Principal Cello of the Australian Chamber Orchestra with which he frequently appears as soloist. He also curates the ACO’s chamber music series at Pier 2/3 in Walsh Bay, Sydney.
Tipi performs JS Bach’s sixth suite for solo cello BWV 1012 with the instrument it was composed for: a five-string violoncello piccolo. The fifth string and the unique colours of this instrument makes it possible to explore the flute partita BWV 1013 in A minor, as well as the famous first cello suite in G Major in completely new way.
“If any music can be described as ‘universal’ it is the music of JS Bach.”
