Details

Melbourne Art Song Collective comprises some of Australia’s best known and loved artists and a selection of overseas musicians, drawn together by their shared love of song.

Their programs have been especially crafted to showcase the variety and richness of the art song tradition and selected masterpieces from the solo piano and chamber music repertoire. The Collective presents both popular and rarely-performed examples of art song, a genre rich in composers’ finest works. Pianist Eidit Golder’s collaborations with renowned international artists are keenly anticipated events, based around programs that are compelling and inviting.

La Bonne Chanson features song cycles from three of the most cherished French composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Reynaldo Hahn’s songs exemplify the tradition of the classic French mélodie. Fauré’s La bonne chanson, one of his most spontaneous and original, explored new possibilities by developing themes across multiple songs. Poulenc’s Tel jour telle nuit was another watershed work for its composer, a cycle in which his mature voice emerges fully formed.
