‘The real deal’. Doug Spencer, ABC
A klezmer band arrives at dawn in a middle-European country town.
London Klezmer Quartet’s musical journey describes how the musicians find their way around, get to know the locals and lead a rowdy session at the local tavern, before exhaustion sets in as the next day dawns.
Traditional klezmer tunes interweave with old laments, a Warsaw Yiddish theatre hit with a hint of jazz (‘Goodbye New York’) and a love song (about beetroot soup).
