John Waters

John Waters is one of Australia’s most pre-eminent, and awarded leading actors throughout film, television, and theatre.

John’s theatre credits span across many productions in Australia and The U.K. Including lead roles in productions such as; Hair for Harry Miller Productions, They’re Playing Our Song for J.C. Williamsons, A Little Night Music for Sydney Theatre Company, Jesus Christ Superstar for Harry Miller Productions, The Sound of Music for Gordon Frost, Oliver! for Cameron Mackintosh, Rocky Horror Picture Show for New Theatricals, self-written Looking Through a Glass Onion for Theatre Royal which played for six months on London’s West End and as Gomez in Newtheatricals production of The Addams Family.

John’s television work is equally extensive from guest lead roles in Underbelly, to his recurring roles on Network 7’s All Saints for which he was nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actor in a Drama’ at the 2006 Australian Film Institute Awards and Southern Star’s Offspring as well as his iconic 20 year involvement with Australian children’s show Play School. His credits also include City Homicide for Seven Network, The Mystery of a Hansom Cab for ABC TV, The Man From Snowy River for Pro Films, Singapore Sling for Barron Films, All The Rivers Run for Crawford Productions, Rush for ABC TV and Division 4 for Crawford Productions, which he was awarded the Logie for Best New Talent in 1975. In 2014 John starred in ABV TV’s Anzac Girls and will return to our screens in 2016 as Edgar in series 4 of Rake for ABC TV. Most recently John filmed a guest role on ABC’s Doctor Blake due to air in 2017.

John also boasts an impressive Film resume including titles such as Stealth, The Sugar Factory, High Country, Breaker Morant, Eliza Frazer and Pino Amenta’s Boulveard of Broken Dreams for which he was awarded the Australian Film Institutes Best Actor. In 2014, John appeared in a lead role in Return to Nim’s Island and the yet –to-be-released Burleigh Smith film You Can’t Play The Game If You Don’t Know The Rules. In 2015 john filmed Paul Currie’s feature film 2:22 opposite Teresa Palmer, which is due for release in 2016. Currently John just wrapped a lead role in Ben Elton’s upcoming movie Three Summers opposite Michael Caton, Magda Szubanski and Deborah Mailman.

John is also an accomplished musician having released a number of recorded albums and EPs adding to his illustrious career. John most recently returned to Australia from the US after touring his self-written one-man show Lennon-Through a Glass Onion, a part monologue part concert show which focus’ on the man and phenomenon which was John Lennon.
