Joshua Bell joins The Academy Chamber Ensemble in an Australian Exclusive

The principal performers of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields are an acclaimed ensemble within an ensemble: the Academy Chamber Ensemble, established in 1967 to explore masterpieces of chamber music for strings and winds. In the Ensemble’s exclusive Australian performance you’ll hear the Strauss’s rollicking tone poem Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks in miniature form when arranger Franz Hasenöhrl’s ‘frolic’ shrinks a huge orchestra down to five players — keeping that cheeky French horn, of course.

Mendelssohn’s remarkable String Octet with its fine melodies and the gracious balance of its various parts proves Mendelssohn as a pioneer in producing a masterful work for the combination of two string quartets and the perfect centrepiece for a morning with the Academy.

Melbourne performances of the Academy supported by Yvonne von Hartel AM & Robert Peck AM of peckvonhartel architects.

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre
