Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra

Under the Artistic Direction of Richard Gill AO, the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra (formerly orchestra seventeen88) leads a rediscovery of Classical and Romantic repertoire with the beauty and clarity unique to a full period instrument orchestra. The inspiration of three of Australia’s most renowned musicians: conductor and educator Richard Gill AO, violinist Rachael Beesley and clarinettist Nicole van Bruggen, the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra is a professional ensemble of Australian musicians specialised in 18th and 19th century performance styles who inspire, educate and enlighten audiences.

“Australia’s brightest and shiniest new orchestra … with its mellifluous woodwind, punchy brass and beautifully tuned strings … orchestra seventeen88 captured that ‘doing something differently’ spirit perfectly in what was a genuinely exciting evening. It’s to be hoped that this exciting young orchestra will continue to carry through their own revolution in the years to come. Bravo! … this is an important addition to Australia’s musical landscape.” (Limelight Magazine)

Performing orchestral as well as chamber and vocal music from this inspiring and highly influential period of composition, the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra’s world-class musicians bring new understanding and passion to their repertoire. Performing on instruments of the time, the orchestra creates an enlightened vision in the Australian music landscape, through their concert performances and their extensive music education program.
