PROGRAM

Australia’s finest young voices explore the songs of three influential Spanish composers in a concert of sun-drenched music and poetry. The 'Four Love Songs’ by Joaquin Rodrigo, composer of the famous Concierto de Aranjuez, weave together early music and folk influences while Joaquin Turina’s Poems in the Form of Songs alludes to the composer’s interest in contemporary musical developments in Paris. Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge’s Five Negro Songs draws from West Indian influences to create a sensuous cycle of six songs, lyrically nostalgic and rumbustious in equal measure.
