David Lorier wins our Fifth Birthday Celebration prize & a trip to Abu Dhabi!
Meet David Lorier, David recently won our Fifth Birthday Celebration prize which includes flights and accommodation to Abu Dhabi thanks to the Centre’s International Airline Partner, Etihad Airways.
On the morning of Saturday 8 February, David’s cricket training had been cancelled due to the extreme heat (a scorching 40 degrees). Flicking through The Age, he stumbled across Melbourne Recital Centre’s Fifth Birthday and community open day. After being unable to rally some friends to attend the celebrations with him, David set off to the Centre’s all-day-long festivities by himself.
David spent three hours exploring Melbourne Recital Centre’s spaces, listening to music performed by our diverse Local Heroes ensembles, La Voce Della Luna Women’s Choir, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and more, before deciding to enter the Etihad Airways competition to experience Abu Dhabi.
Originally from New Zealand, music runs in David’s family. His sister plays the cello and tours Europe regularly and David grew up playing the violin as a child.
The news of winning a trip to Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways was rather fortuitous timing, David says. He loves Melbourne and loves Melbourne’s music scene, but was unable to find a job and feared he may have to move back home to New Zealand. On the same day that our Development Coordinator, Katherine called him to tell him the news that he’d won our Fifth Birthday Celebration prize, David also found a job! What a stroke of luck, coincidence and fate.
Congratulations David and enjoy your Abu Dhabi experience!
