InConcert Music presents instrumental music by Melbourne-based Indian musicians. In this concert, the Iyer Brothers, Ramnath and Gopinath Iyer, perform a veena duet and unfold the enchanting rhythms and melodies and present compositions from the 18th century and beyond.

As part of the Indian Classical Instrumental Series, these musicians are top performers in their respective musical fields with decades of experience and accompanied on traditional Indian percussion instruments such as Mridangam, Ghatam and Kanjira.

Melbourne-based twin brothers Ramnath Iyer and Gopinath Iyer are Australia’s leading exponents of the veena and have been performing for over three decades.

Over the years, they have performed at major festivals including Womadelaide, Bermagui, Port Fairy and Boite and have been featured on the ABC.

The Iyer Brothers have made a name for themselves in Australia and overseas as a unique duo in Carnatic (South Indian) classical music.

Their music is both exciting and complex, beautiful and challenging. The brothers are ‘A’ graded artists of All India Radio, Chennai. They run the Pichumani School of Carnatic music where they teach Vocal music and Veena playing in Melbourne.
