Now in its seventh year, Melbourne Recital Centre’s Bach Competition is dedicated to young musicians passionate about J.S. Bach and Baroque performance.

Come and enjoy a selection of Bach’s landmark solo compositions performed by the outstanding young musicians in this year’s competition Final.

Music students in regional Victoria are invited to participate in the Centre’s inaugural Bach Performance Skills Workshop supported by the Newsboys Foundation.

This workshop will be held in the Salon on Sunday 17 April from 1 to 4 pm. Attendance is free for students living more than 60 kilometres from the Melbourne metro area or outside of the metropolitan train network.

Young regional musicians will have a unique opportunity to hear from expert musicians and develop Baroque performance skills. Workshop participants are encouraged to enter the 2016 Bach Competition.

Melbourne Recital Centre’s 2016 Bach Competition, dedicated to young musicians passionate about J.S. Bach

Entrants will compete for the Richard Mills Prize of $2000, the Australian Bach Society Award of $1,500, two Encouragement Prizes of $1,000 and The Newsboys Foundation Regional Music Award which includes travel, accommodation, tuition, concert tickets and mentoring opportunities.

This competition is open to any instrument/s, to soloists who are 17 years of age and under (at 1 January 2016). A minimum performance level of AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent is expected. Students from rural or regional Victoria are eligible for The Newsboys Foundation Regional Music Award.

Competition repertoire will consist of any works of J.S. Bach not exceeding 10 minutes. The Competition Final will be held at Melbourne Recital Centre on Sunday 26 June 2016. This event is free and general admission, however tickets will be required for entry.

Competition applications close Wednesday 25 May 2016 at midnight.
