A celebration of the exuberant and exotic music of Santiago de Murcia
Santiago de Murcia’s publications for the guitar offer a compendium of compositional and instrumental practice from the early 18th century. Rediscovered in the 20th century in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, his manuscripts contain dances and songs collected from Spain, France, Africa and South America and represent an authentic and earthy ‘world music’ from a bygone era.
The Continuo Collective presents a night of massed plucked strings and percussion in a celebration of this exuberant and exotic music. Featuring Geoffrey Morris (guitar, guitarrilla), Samantha Cohen (guitar, theorbo, chitarra battente), Marshall McGuire (triple harp) and Dan Richardson (percussion).
Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre and Continuo Collective
