‘Archer sang…with such pure power, tenderness and beauty that people wept.’ The Adelaide Advertiser
From a Stephen Foster song written during the American Civil War to Pink’s ‘Dear Mr President’, The ( Other) American Songbook celebrates great songs that portray a different side of that great country.
Themes of drought and The Great Depression sit next to a well documented taste for booze, gambling and other sins. Featuring songs by Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, and the odd Broadway hit, this is a revealing, joyous and moving portrait of America.
Robyn Archer AO FAHA is performer, writer, artistic director and public advocate for the arts. She holds many national and international honours and awards, and honorary doctorates from five Australian universities. Robyn is known in Canberra for her direction of The Centenary of Canberra. These two extraordinary concerts will help launch the Canberra Spiegeltent Season.
