Stephanie Dixon

Stephanie has played oboe since the age of 14, and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music in Advanced Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, where she studied with Eve Newsome on a Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship. She was awarded the Rudolf Pekarek Oboe Prize, the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence (2010-2013), the 4MBS Chamber Music prize, and was a finalist in the prestigious Brisbane Club Award.

She commenced her studies at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in 2014 under the tutelage of Jeffrey Crellin and was awarded the Directors Prize at the culmination of her studies. In 2014 she had the pleasure of playing principal oboe with the Sydney Sinfonia as well as spending five months playing in Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Les Miserables in Melbourne. She was the winner of the open section of the Australasian Double Reed Society competition in 2015 as well as a semi-finalist in the annual ANAM Concerto Competition and a finalist in the ANAM Chamber Music Competition later that year.
In 2016 Steph travelled to play with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in Germany touring concerts in Dortmund, Essen, and Cologne. She also toured with acclaimed Finnish pianist, Paavali Jumpanen in Geelong, Perth, and Brisbane, presenting a concert of chamber works with fellow ANAM musicians. Steph had the pleasure of curating and performing her own chamber music concert, Baroque Winds, as part of the Brisbane Baroque Festival’s 5×5×5 series.

Steph is a casual musician with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and enjoys the opportunity to combine music and travel.
