Amber Evans

Amber Evans is a soprano originally from Brisbane, Australia, currently studying a Masters of Music Contemporary Classical Voice under the tutelage of Lucy Shelton at the Manhattan School of Music, New York. Completing her undergraduate in 2014, she attained the Griffith University Medal and First Class Honours in her Bachelor of Music (Advanced Performance) degree majoring in classical voice from the Queensland Conservatorium. Afterwards, she attained a First for her Masters in Choral Studies at the University of Cambridge, where she presented the roles of Cobweb in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, La Ciesca in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, La Musica in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, premiered the Countess in Owain Park’s The Snow Child and presented choreographed performances of Schönberg’s Pierrot Lunaire. 2015 provided her with some equally exciting operatic endeavours, presenting the roles of Countess in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Poppea from Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea and Gretel from Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel in Australia. This year with the Manhattan School of Music, Amber is looking forward to presenting the roles of Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and the title roles of Suor Angelica in Puccini’s opera, and Elle Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine. As well as her operatic and solo interests, Amber is an avid chorister, and is a recently appointed choral scholar at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, under the direction of Kent Tritle. She has previously been a mainstay member of The Australian Voices, Sidney Sussex College Choir, Magdalena (Alamire Scholars) and the Cambridge University Chamber Choir. Working with The Australian Voices over the past couple of years as the choir’s composer-in-residence and assistant conductor has allowed her to have two choral works published by Edition Peters and recorded under the Warner Classics label. Amber plans to continue developing her passion for contemporary Australian choral and vocal music as she continues her postgraduate studies in New York.
