Jake Shimabukuro

with special guest DJ Elle Young

Melbourne Recital Centre’s favourite ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro makes his triumphant return to Elisabeth Murdoch Hall in 2017.

Jake has elevated the ukulele from a beloved Hawaiian folk instrument to a world-class vehicle, fearlessly traversing boundaries and putting his inspired touch on everything from island standards, to popular tunes and, most recently, classical symphonic concertos.

Viewed by his peers as a musician’s musician, Jake’s discography includes collaborations with a wide range of artists, from Yo-Yo Ma, Jimmy Buffett, Jack Johnson and Cyndi Lauper to Ziggy Marley, Dave Koz, Lyle Lovett and Bette Midler. He’s sold out world-class venues, played at Bonnaroo, SXSW, the Playboy Jazz Festival, Fuji Rock Festival, the influential TED conference, and even performed for Queen Elizabeth II at a Royal Variety Performance.

Jake’s music has redefined the ukulele for the 21st century and on this tour he showcases material from his latest album Nashville Sessions – his first album of original songs and one of his most adventurous, multifaceted and engaging recordings yet.

Jake’s on a mission to revolutionise our perception of the four-string, two-octave instrument, expanding the limits of the ‘uke’ further than you ever thought possible. Have a listen and join the cause.
