Co-cheòl

Co-cheòl (Scots-Gaelic for harmony, pronounced Ko-shawl) are Australia’s only Celtic female quartet. Formed in October 2013, these four chanteuses were drawn together through a shared passion for traditional Scottish and Irish Song. They quickly became a strong presence on the Australian Folk and A Cappella scenes, and within 6 months were winners of the AUS-ACA Victorian A Cappella championships and 2nd in the AUS-ACA National Championships.
At the 2015 National Folk Festival, Co-cheòl were awarded the Peter Daly Memorial Award for Best Up-Coming Celtic Act. This has since led to performances at the National Celtic Festival, Woodford, Fairbridge and Cygnet Folk Festivals, among others. Artistic collaborators have included David Francey, Mal Webb, Liz Frencham, Fred Smith, Carl Panuzzo, Penny Larkins and The Festival Statesmen (SA).
Co-cheòl write, arrange and perform both a cappella and self-accompanied songs. They perform mostly traditional Scottish and Irish Songs, with a smattering of contemporary songs of other nations as well as their own original pieces. Their clever and intriguing arrangements of both the familiar and the new create a rich tapestry of lush harmonies sure to evoke goosebumps. With their charming storytelling and playful humour, these elegant young women have a rare ability to evoke the gamut of emotions from laughter to tears.
Co-cheòl released their self titled EP in September 2014, and their debut album Stay a While was released in 2016. Co-cheòl are thrilled to be performing as a part of the 2017 Melbourne International Singers Festival.
