The Letter String Quartet collaborate with revered indigenous musician Richard J Frankland
The members of The Letter String Quartet (TLSQ), Steph O’Hara (Blue Grassy Knoll, Polyglot), Lizzy Welsh (Australian Art Orchestra, ELISION Ensemble), Zoë Barry (Meow Meow, Missy Higgins) and Biddy Connor (Laura Jean, Missy Higgins) each play, sing and compose for the ensemble. Having been performing together for six years, TLSQ presents wildly moving programs of new music for strings and voices through commissions and collaborations with innovative Australian and international composers including Mick Harvey, Bree Van Reyk, Andrea Keller, Wally Gunn, Ned Collette and Erik de Luca.
The Letter String Quartet is driven by a desire to make new music with extraordinary artists and is thrilled to collaborate with revered indigenous singer, songwriter, author, poet and filmmaker Richard J Frankland. The concert premieres new songs written collaboratively by Richard and TLSQ’s Artistic Director Biddy Connor and re-imaginings of Richard’s already existing work. The Quartet will also collaborate with Richard to create improvisatory accompaniments for Richard’s spoken stories. Experience the socially and historically significant stories and poetry of Richard J Frankland accompanied by the wild, sonic creations of TLSQ. The quartet will provide accompaniment on their stringed instruments, vocals and musical saws.
