Yu Xiaoqing

Yu Xiaoqing, National Second Class Actor, is the dizi artist of the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theatre, and the vice-secretary of the Professional Chinese Bamboo Flute Committee of Chinese Orchestra Society. Graduated from China Conservatory of Music in 2001, he is taught by well-known dizi artists, such as Chen Qiguo, Zhao Songting, Yu Xunfa, Xhang Weiliang, and Wang Ciheng. He entered the Beijing Normal University to study the master degree in performing art and graduated with flying colours in 2008. In 2007, he won the gold award of the instrument category in the Singapore Annual International Dance Music Awards. He edited and published dizi professional teaching materials: ‘Introductory Tutorial of Dizi’, ‘The Performing Techniques of Dizi’. He also published a number of academic papers, such as ‘My Opinion on the Performance and Development of Dizi in China’, and released an original dizi album ‘Summer Wind’. He participated in the recording of the Newagey album “Three Times’ as the major performer in China as well. In his enduring pursuit of artistic advancement, he ponders and explores the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional music.

Yu recorded numerous music shows on top-notch media platforms, including China Central Television, Beijing Media Network, and China Radio International. He also took part in over a hundred major shows in the finest performance venues, such as Great Hall of the People, National Centre for the Performing Arts, and Beijing Concert Hall. Performed in Austria, Finland, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Germany, England, Ireland and Macau, he is well-received for his seasoned playing techniques, profound artistic expression and elegant oriental temperament.
