Dreams and Dances

Evocations, dreams, dances and everything in between

As Melbourne’s leading guitar ensemble, the award winning Melbourne Guitar Quartet (MGQ) welcomes audiences who are curious about hearing new music and established favourites through the rich, vibrant and beautiful sound of the guitar quartet. Embodying a dynamic and theatrical on-stage musical persona, MGQ’s blend of innovative arrangements, technical flair and superb ensemble playing is a joy to experience.

Evocations, dreams, dances and everything in between are all wonderfully portrayed in this vastly colourful and highly rhythmic program. Featuring classical works which have been thoughtfully re-imagined for guitar quartet, each contains MGQ’s deft touch, musical sensitivity and rhythmic verve, allowing these works to find a new home on the guitar. Alongside celebrating the genius of Debussy, a century after his passing, MGQ will premiere its own arrangement of Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin.

Melbourne Guitar Quartet

The Melbourne Guitar Quartet (MGQ) is dedicated to the development of new chamber music repertoire for the instrument. MGQ uses the guitar family of instruments (classical bass, baritone, standard, treble and octave guitars) producing a rich and broad timbral spectrum for guitar ensemble performance.
