Emotion-fuelled and exploratory – stimulate your senses with contemporary sound worlds and a seminal classic, brought to life by the Goldner String Quartet.
Immerse yourself in three evocative and divergent sound worlds rarely performed together in the unrivalled acoustic of Elisabeth Murdoch Hall for one night only.
Arvo Pärt is one of the world’s most fascinating composers (revered by the likes of Steve Reich and The Tallis Scholars to Björk and Thom Yorke). His music underscores blockbuster films and mesmerises classical audiences in concert halls across the globe. His iconic work, Fratres is immersive, mystical and emotion-fuelled, the perfect introduction to unusual and alluring signature musical style. Pēteris Vasks is a freethinker whose music meets distinctively at the intersection of melancholy and renewed hope. His String Quartet No.3 is a powerful voyage from suffering to freedom. The program peaks with Franz Schubert’s Death and the Maiden – one of the most powerfully dramatic in the repertoire, built around a heartbreaking song with deep personal meaning for the composer. It is one of the pillars of chamber music repertoire and a captivating contrast to the works of Pärt and Vasks
The Goldners’ artful musicianship spans over 20 years of music-making and performance. The virtuosic Australian quartet explores these diverse perspectives of faith, hope and death, bringing the works of Pärt, Vasks and Schubert to life this March
