Quartz brings to life three brave 20th-century visions.
Uniting the talents of its four highly-acclaimed members Kathryn Taylor, Philippa West, Merewyn Bramble and Zoe Wallace, Quartz has become a well-known Melbourne ensemble renowned for their vibrant and innovative programs. Their pairing of classic string quartet repertoire with lesser known contemporary pieces continues to add to their unique voice within the local and national scene, contributing to their success on stage and in the recording studio.
Delve into the vast and colourful world of early string quartet writing by three famous modern composers as Quartz brings to life three brave 20th-century visions. Charles Ives’ From The Salvation Army which uses hymns as the building block of his unique musical voice, moving into the dramatic melancholy of Philip Glass’ Company before finishing on Prokofiev’s String Quartet No.1 – immersing the listener in a rich and emotionally moving palette of harmonies.
