A collection of original etudes composed by Sean Connolly for unaccompanied bass guitar.
This performance features the original works of Sean Connolly and his collection of etudes for unaccompanied solo bass guitar. Each piece is inspired from a selected work from Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Douze Etudes.
The collection of works was written as part of Sean’s Honours Degree in Music at the VCA where his research involved exploring classical guitar repertoire as an influence for composing for solo bass guitar. In these pieces, Sean incorporates classical and contemporary guitar techniques on a five-string bass guitar to bring a unique approach to playing the bass guitar. The combination of classical composition and jazz improvisation on a contemporary instrument is a blend that must be heard to be appreciated.
