Simone Young Conducts Brahms

The musical partnership between Simone Young and ANAM musicians has provided Melbourne with some enduring musical memories: a Brahms series of searching intensity and last year’s Turangalîla-Symphonie being just two highlights of this collaboration.

Her 2018 concert with the ANAM Orchestra features repertoire that spans over a century of German lineage.

60 years separate the contented world of Brahms elegiac Third Symphony from Strauss’ sorrow-laden Metamorphosen of 1944. Strauss’ threnody for the Germany that lay in ruins about him teeters precariously on the edge of this world and another: following its final bars, we are inevitably left staring into an immense silence.
