‘Sheens is a fine pianist capable of swinging solos and introspective moods, and his compositions show a high level of ability.’ The Australian
Expatriate Matthew Sheens has made impressive progress after moving to New York just a few years ago, following his wins at the APRA/ AMCOS Professional Development Awards and Downbeat Student Award.
This concert showcases his latest original works, Variations on a Massacre, which is based on a series of musical observations since living in the U.S.A. after the rise of Trump and the far right. The music involves extended form work with improvisation.
