Details

A celestial evening of music featuring Laraaji & Ariel Kalma, live in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall

Orange clad and cloud-levelled in nature, New-Age icon Laraaji is a masterful navigator of music and meditation. He began playing music on the streets in the 1970s, improvising trance-inducing jams on a modified autoharp processed through various electronic effects. Brian Eno saw him playing one night in Washington Square Park and invited him to record an album for his seminal Ambient series. Laraaji went on to release a prolific series of albums for a wide variety of labels, many of which he recorded himself at home and sold as cassettes during his street performances.

A renowned new-age composer and multi-instrumentalist, Ariel Kalma is an evolutionary musician whose career spans four decades. Described as a ‘magic carpet ride’ (Pitchfork), Ariel’s music fuses free jazz, experimental electronics, minimalism and features a kaleidoscopic collection of instruments from around the world.

Welcoming you into the space of these two pioneering musicians will be DJ Michael Kucyk AKA Noise In My Head.
