Quatuor Ébène

Quatuor Ébène has been called ‘a string quartet that can easily morph into a jazz band’. While you won’t hear any jazz in the Quartet’s all-Beethoven evening, the same sense of improvisation and spontaneity animates this band of four’s music-making.

The musicians met at university and what began as a practice room distraction quickly became a full-time quartet with a reputation for breathing new life into the classics. Quatuor Ébène’s direct and authentic approach is ideal for the string quartets of Beethoven, where passion and drama, humour and tragedy jostle together.

From 2019 to 2020, Quatuor Ébène tours five continents performing and recording all of Beethoven’s string quartets in the world’s finest concert halls, including Melbourne Recital Centre’s Elisabeth Murdoch Hall.
