Details

‘There is an expressive truthfulness and a straightforward musicality about his playing that is totally convincing.’ The Guardian

Stephen Kovacevich is unquestionably one of the greatest pianists of the last half century. In his long and distinguished career as a concert pianist, he is particularly renowned for his interpretations of Schubert. And now we welcome this eminent artist, a giant in the piano world, to make his Melbourne Recital Centre debut in this masterful program.

Stephen Kovacevich is the ultimate master craftsman. His performances have integrity and beauty – the products of experience, wisdom and heart. Relationships have also defined Kovacevich’s career: with conductor Colin Davis for a series of iconic recordings and his ongoing musical partnerships with musicians including ex-wife Martha Argerich. Then there are the relationships he has with Bach, Beethoven and Schubert, composers he has known all his life, and who continue to provide inspiration and discovery to Kovacevich and his audiences.
