Early music specialists Vivien Hamilton, Rosemary Hodgson and Ruth Wilkinson have been performing together for over 20 years.
United in Auncient Hermony, they perform a wide array of early vocal and instrumental music, frequently collaborating with like-minded artists.
Famed Italian composer Giulio Caccini called Laura Peverara, Anna Guarini and Livia D’Arco the ‘Angels of Paradise’. In the 16th century, this trio of female singers gave the premieres of many beautiful virtuoso arias and madrigals. With the addition of lute and the viola da gamba they became musical superstars under the patronage of Duke Alfonso II of Ferrara. The three ladies improvised and memorised their own embellishments, holding a strong influence over the madrigal composers. This concert is a celebration of their legacy, which redefined the relationship of women to music, opening a pathway for the next generation of female composers.
