Event details

After the death of Erik Satie, dozens of unsent love letters were found in his Paris apartment.

Fascinated by this story, award-winning composer Elena Kats-Chernin and pianist Tamara-Anna Cislowska sent those letters off, in meditative and passionate piano miniatures inspired by Satie’s extraordinary life and music.

ARIA-winning Tamara-Anna Cislowska has been described as ‘Australian piano gold’ by BBC Music Magazine and praised for her ‘profoundly affecting’ musicianship by Gramophone. Her long musical partnership with Kats-Chernin and dedication to contemporary Australian music make her the ultimate artist to bring these intimate, inquisitive pieces to life.

Kats-Chernin appears as both composer and pianist in a program that includes highlights from her new opera Whiteley, lauded by critics for music that is ‘vividly coloured with latent power’ (Daily Review), and a sneak peek into brand-new works taking shape at the very moment.

Presented by Melbourne Rectal Centre
