This event takes place at Collins Street Baptist Church
Flinders Quartet’s 2020 20th anniversary Collins Street concert series opens with Beethoven’s satisfyingly epic Op.130 and emerging composer Derek Brookes.
In a series becoming more and more popular, Flinders Quartet’s one hour Collins Street concerts serve a digestible size of glorious music in the middle of the day, with some of the best acoustics in Melbourne.
‘Satisfyingly epic’ is the best way to describe Beethoven’s String Quartet Op.130, while Derek Brookes’ first string quartet (based on stunning haiku text) is a tantalising episode. ‘Playing Beethoven String Quartets has always been the most spiritual experience that I have in my life. When I descend into the music everything else disappears and it seems as if the music explains everything that is important about being alive and human.’ Helen Ireland, viola
Come along early to enjoy a pre-concert from 12.40pm to 12.50pm by a student or amateur ensemble.
