Event details

‘Thoughtfully conceived and brilliantly executed [with] mesmerising solos.’ The Age

Melbourne-based saxophonist Josh Kelly has established himself as one of the most exciting young musicians in Melbourne, winning the 2019 PBS Young Elder of Jazz Award.

Following its sold-out premiere at the 2019 Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Josh recreates his immersive work ‘Displacement’ in the intimacy of Primrose Potter Salon.

‘Displacement’ refers to the migrant experience of having one’s sense of home and community uprooted. Exploring this idea through the lens of his own family history, Josh crosses the boundaries of jazz, French impressionism and syncopated rhythms to create a breathtaking one-of-a-kind experience.

Performed by a six-piece ensemble, Josh is joined on stage by revered jazz, improvising and contemporary classical musicians from across Australia. The moving piece is set to a stunning visual backdrop designed by Jolivision and edited in real time.

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre and Melbourne Jazz Co-operative
