Event details

Unique in the musical landscape of Australia, Songmakers Australia presents a diverse repertoire comprising some of the pinnacles of vocal chamber music.

Under the artistic patronage of Graham Johnson, pianist Andrea Katz teams with soprano Merlyn Quaife, mezzo-soprano Christina Wilson, tenor Brenton Spiteri and bass-baritone Nicholas Dinopoulos in inspired programs featuring a dynamic interplay of song and chamber music.

All members of Songmakers Australia come together for a performance of Schumann’s intriguing and rarely heard Minnespiel, a homage to his wife Clara on the 10th anniversary of their marriage. Schumann turns to Friedrich Rückert as his poetic source, and the work is reminiscent of Myrthen, a piece also written for Clara, as an engagement gift. Songs, duets and quartets by Schubert and Brahms are the final adornments of a concert where love and light are the main ingredients designed to make hearts sing.
