‘Born performer … irrepressible style.’ The Courier-Mail
Join Australian concert pianist and composer Maria Welna, a zealous virtuoso and born performer, as she transforms the phenomenon of Lisztomania. Specially curated for the intimate recital setting, Lisztomaria is a twenty-first-century ode to the golden age of pianism, and the great performer-composer tradition.
Showcasing the virtuoso superstars of a bygone era, Lisztomaria will take audience members on an enthralling journey of rediscovery, fusing virtuosity, substance, tradition, and modernity. This is a rare opportunity to experience bold, dramatic, and yet elegant programming. Immerse yourself in Liszt’s Totentanz for solo piano, Liszt/Welna’s Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 in C-sharp minor, and significant works by Chopin, compellingly framed by Maria’s virtuoso compositions.
A proponent of the European/Russian school of pianism, Maria performs some of the world’s most stunning repertoire and is praised for virtuoso, seemingly-effortless performances. Her compositions smartly combine contemporary (elements) with a Romantic texture.
