Event details

Melbourne’s newest horn trio, Quercus, makes its Melbourne Recital Centre debut, showcasing Australian compositions and Brahms’s great masterpiece, his Horn Trio, Op.40.

The horn was the instrument of Brahms’s childhood and his fondness for it is felt throughout the innovative work. The Don Banks Horn Trio is one of the first significant compositions to be written for Australian horn player Barry Tuckwell and features jazzy rhythms and smooth colours. Intense driving forces in Velvet Revolution by Elena Kats-Chernin push the players and colours of this ensemble to their limits.
