Event details

Saxophonist Justin Kenealy and pianist Coady Green unite as Duo Eclettico, two award-winning Australian artists showcasing a dazzling array of virtuosic music for this rarely heard combination of instruments.

Following its sell-out recital in 2019, Duo Eclettico returns for a two-concert series exploring the fragile relationship between nature and humankind. In concert one, the virtuosic Fuzzy Bird Sonata of Japan’s Takashi Yoshimatsu is paired with a new work by Australian composer Jane Hammond.

A tribute to composer Olivier Messiaen, her piece is a moving reflection on humans, climate change and their effect on the environment. Another composer who has surely been influenced by Messiaen is his former student William Albright. Albright’s monumental Sonata for Saxophone and Piano, while being a staple of the saxophone and piano repertoire for decades, hasn’t been performed in Australia until now. Uniting traditional Baroque and modern jazz techniques, the sonata captures the exquisite poignancy of human feelings and understanding.
