Pianist Stewart Kelly is the choice partner of many of Australia’s finest instrumentalists and singers. Performing extensively in Australia and beyond, he collaborates with artists of the highest calibre to create unforgettable recitals that explore every corner of the human condition.
On the surface, Schubert’s masterpiece is a powerful yet simple love story with an unhappy ending. But through these 20 songs Schubert’s setting of the poetry of Müller asks much bigger questions that can seem elusive at first. The work explores almost Wagnerian ideals that true love cannot be realised within our mortal world and only consummated through death. A technical and emotional tour de force, ‘Die Schöne Müllerin’ is an unmissable concert experience.
Stewart Kelly pairs with tenor Doug Kelly for this rare Melbourne performance of the full cycle. Stewart and Doug were the major prize winners at the 2019 Liederfest and are acclaimed for their performances of lieder and art song.
