J.S. Bach - Music for Reflection

About this concert

Enter a realm of reflection with soulful music by Johann Sebastian Bach and contemporary works that echo his deeply affecting art. Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin are intimate and infinite in their power. They hypnotise us in the present while creating a divine space for meditative contemplation. Bach’s Cello Suites are just as revelatory. Here the cello breathes as a singer, finding an unsurpassed resonance and range.

Together with works by today’s luminaries, including Arvo Pärt’s much-admired Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror in the Mirror), Bach’s pioneering vision is refracted and reflected in a sparkling new light. The sensitive musicianship of violinist Rachael Beesley, cellist Josephine Vains and percussionist Robert Cossom will express the emotional riches of these great works.
