Ai Yamamoto unites with Dan West for a rare live performance
About Ai Yamamoto
Japanese-born Ai Yamamoto has been a figure in the Australian electronic music community since the early 2000s, sourcing sounds from field recordings, video games and daily life. These textures form a body of work influenced by soundscapes, electronica, ambient and industrial music.
About this concert
Ai Yamamoto’s compositions fuse soundscapes and atmospheric sounds with intricate textures. She turns mundane sounds from daily life into playful melodies that emanate a vivid visual presence. In a rare live performance, Ai is joined by multi-instrumentalist, music producer and sound designer Dan West to perform and recontextualise works off her recent EP, Remembering, and unreleased works. This is also the premiere of Dan and Ai’s collaborative sound works, which explore Ai’s love of melodies and Dan’s finest minimal beats, reminiscent of Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Ai’s fascinating video works will help guide you on this sonic journey.
Melbourne Recital Centre is committed to the safety of our artists, staff and patrons. As we reopen, a range of public health, hygiene and physical distancing measures will be in place. Click here to learn more.
