About this concert
Australian music icon Nick Cave explodes the boundaries between the sacred and profane, biblical and salacious. As a songwriter, Cave is drawn to monumental themes like desire, faith, sin, despair, redemption, grief and love. His bold and dramatic lyrics have made him one of Australia’s most loved songwriters. Using Cave’s pieces and writings as a canvas, jazz musicians and improvisers Lillian Albazi and Oscar Neyland strip these works back to their raw beginnings and resurrect them in their own style. Presented in an intimate jazz duo setting, these beloved works are made new again.
About Lillian Albazi & Oscar Neyland
A soaring voice in the Australian jazz scene, Lillian Albazi (Lillian Albazi Quintet, Great ~ Falls) is lauded for her natural charm and stirring vocals. Lillian and double bassist Oscar Neyland (The Rookies, The Wirecutters) have frequently collaborated in their quartet performances. Their musical partnership now extends into appearances as a duo, with Lillian’s voice framed beautifully by Oscar’s double bass.
