Dandelion Wine on the Winter Solstice

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Dandelion Wine

Dandelion Wine travels back through the ages, from the present to the Medieval, stitching together their era-spanning music on a wildly eclectic mix of instruments.

Swirling electric guitar textures and lush electronics are interwoven with the beautiful acoustic sounds of traditional string instruments such as the cello, hammered dulcimer (percussion-stringed instrument), bell cittern (plucked stringed instrument) and the lute. Naomi Henderson’s ethereal vocals are the crowning jewel in this rich musical tapestry.

About this concert

The winter solstice has inspired a great variety of festivals, across different cultures, religions and periods. At its essence, the solstice is a powerful moment to reflect on the end of the darkest part of winter and invite a new summer to blossom. Bridging musical worlds, Dandelion Wine’s seamless blending of Medieval and contemporary music ranges from the enchantingly delicate to the darkly powerful. The ensemble’s imaginative style is the perfect companion to a day that cherishes the transition between old and new, light and shade, and the birth of new delights.

In line with the advice of health authorities and Victoria’s circuit-breaker lockdown, this concert has been rescheduled to Friday 9 July 7pm.
