‘A masterclass in chamber music technique.’ The Australian

About Seraphim Trio

For more than two decades, Helen Ayres (violin), Tim Nankervis (cello) and Anna Goldsworthy (piano) have revitalised Australia’s love of the piano trio artform with their effortless virtuosity, sophisticated programs and brilliant ensemble playing. Just as the ensemble’s name implies, Seraphim Trio represents chamber music-making of the highest order.

About this concert

Seraphim Trio performs two classical favourites. Joseph Haydn’s Piano Trio No.27 displays the unconstrained joy of a composer at the height of his mature powers. Composed for the virtuoso pianist Therese Bartolozzi during Haydn’s London years, it stretched the possibilities of the form. Almost a century separates this Trio from Brahms’s great Piano Trio No.2. Warm, expansive and filled to the brim with lyrical ideas, Brahms’s Trio is the perfect companion to one of Haydn’s last works in this genre.
