Piano quartets are relatively rarely performed, but the genre was beloved of composers as different as Mozart, Fauré, Franck and Brahms.
Principal Australian Chamber Orchestra violinist Helena Rathbone is joined by present and former colleagues Timo-Veikko Valve on cello, Christopher Moore on viola, and Australian pianist Stefan Cassomenos in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall. Performing the virtuosic and playful compositions of Fauré and the luscious and hopeful works of Brahms.
Featuring some of Australia’s finest chamber musicians, this is an exceptional opportunity to witness a rare collaboration between such incredible and in demand musicians in their own right, one which must be put down to their passion for the repertoire and undeniable chemistry as an ensemble. Helena Rathbone & Friends will map the complex relationships between composers who changed the course of western art music with instinctual synergy that is both brilliant and exuberant.
Praise for Helena Rathbone
‘When the very best orchestral musicians take the rare opportunity to come together as friends to perform chamber music, something magical happens. This recital will be no exception, with Principal Violin of the ACO Helena Rathbone and colleagues performing piano and quartets from Fauré and Brahms. This sublime event is not one to be missed.’ – Casey Green (Utzon Music Series Curator)
