Event details

Recreating the poignant melodies of Barber, Schubert and Schumann.

Internationally acclaimed cellist Li-Wei Qin returns to Melbourne Recital Centre with revered pianist, Kristian Chong to perform works from Barber, Schubert and Schumann. The pair have established a long-standing musical bond, last playing together in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall in 2018.

Li-Wei Qin has appeared all over the world as a soloist and chamber musician; a brilliant, virtuosic performer with extraordinary technical fluency. Kristian Chong’s superlative pianism, paired with his dynamic range and affinity for collaboration, make him the ideal partner for this performance. Together they will recreate the poignant melodies of Barber’s Sonata for Cello and Piano, Schubert’s Sonata for Arpeggione and Piano in A minor and Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro, injecting character and sensitivity. The repertoire was selected by Li-Wei Qin as a commentary on the complexity of our current times, touching on themes of sensitivity, intimacy and reconciling inner drama.

A brilliant opportunity to experience these gifted players offering music from their hearts to yours. Against all odds, these fine musical collaborators will come together in what will be a truly breathtaking performance in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall.
