Panorama Brasil – Oxóssi, The Hunter

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Panorama Brasil
Details
Colourful, vibrant and exciting, Panorama Brasil’s music instantly grabs your attention, and the band knows how to keep you interested too.
Australia meets South America in the eclectic music of contemporary jazz ensemble Panorama Brasil. Led by percussionist-composer Alastair Kerr, the band draws from Brazil’s diverse musical landscape, taking influence from Afro-Brazilian rhythms, bossa nova and folklore.
About the concert
For this performance, the ensemble takes inspiration from the story of Afro-Brazilian deity Oxóssi. After tempting fate, Oxóssi is spared death, only to discover that he can no longer recognise his family. Separated from his loved ones, he spends the rest of his days wandering the forests, where he becomes a supreme hunter and a spiritual guardian of the lands. This ancient tale of fate and fortune, tragedy and transformation, is encapsulated by Panorama Brasil’s expressive music-making and gift for storytelling.
