Songs of Love & Exile

Songs of Love & Exile

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & SARAY Iluminado

Details

Drawing on folk song, tales and mythology, SARAY Iluminado sweeps you away to ancient cultures and distant shores.

In these curious realms, you are destined to meet colourful characters longing to tell you a story or two: from warriors and mermaids to talking fruits. Such are the delights of traditional Sevdah and Sephardic Jewish music. SARAY Iluminado shares the riches with us in its own imaginative style, binding the tales together through one supreme language: song.

About this concert

Dancer Israel Aloni joins singer Nela Trifkovic and the multi-instrumentalist mavericks of SARAY Iluminado for a mystical journey to the ancient Balkans. Be immersed in a wondrous time when spirits, goddesses, nymphs and archetypes roamed the Earth. Meet the Spirit of Songs; drift along the translucent Bosnian river-bands, through the ‘casbahs’; and arrive at the Adriatic tip of Herzegovina, where the Spirit of Joy and Suffering appears, smelling of home-brewed coffee and singing the most nostalgic tunes.

COVID Safety
