Natalie Carolan – Still, In Shadows

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Natalie Carolan

Natalie Carolan returns to Melbourne Recital Centre to perform her latest work, Still, In Shadows. A performance best elucidated by the artist themselves.

Daily, we experience the blocking of light. The darkness can catapult us into the unknown and uncomfortable, smothering us with the deepest of pains or bringing us face to face with hidden crevices within ourselves or others. It is sometimes us who inhibits the flow of light; us who stands in the way of the light; us who finds ourselves facilitating and nurturing this constant dwelling in darkness.

Yet, we know that shadows, such as the evening occurrence of day becoming night, can also be a source of stillness, wonder and delight. That the biggest hurdles in life are often met with a stronger connection to ourselves and others.

Maybe there is a way to rest, still, in shadows, in all facets of the interruption of light. Perhaps we can find a sense of softness, safety or acceptance. Maybe we acknowledge that these dark places are an inevitable part of life and we can fine tune ourselves to either find light or to keep blocking it out.

It has been five years since the release of Natalie Carolan’s debut album, I Sleep at Melbourne Recital Centre. Still, In Shadows, is a new set of songs, exploring daily shadows we encounter, as well as the way we meet them along the way. She will be joined by Christian Meyer (guitar), Luke Howard (piano) and Clancye Milne (voice).

Don’t miss this intuitive, explorative performance in the intimacy of the Primrose Potter Salon.
