‘Gould is not one for extravagant gestures, but there is such tenderness and beauty in his touch that it can take your breath away.’ – The Age
Jazz and folk collide in music from the Claire Patti Trio featuring pianist Tony Gould. Acclaimed vocalist and harpist Claire Patti’s artistry carries across multiple styles, with her sublime voice lending itself equally to traditional Celtic music and jazz. Tony Gould, as Australia’s first professor of jazz, is one of Australia’s most revered pianists and respected musicians. He brings his sensitive performances of contemporary and jazz standards to the Trio’s intimate musical style.
About the concert
Celebrated jazz pianist Tony Gould and vocalist and harpist Claire Patti centre this concert around treasured folk songs and tunes from Ireland, Scotland and beyond. Songs from the 18th century through to contemporary tunes of today are retold through the artists’ unique stylings. Claire and Tony’s collaborative music crosses between folk and jazz genres, with both musicians taking inspiration from their shared love for these sounds and stories. Accompanying the musical storytelling is Louise Godwin on cello.
Melbourne Recital Centre is committed to the safety of our artists, staff and patrons. When we reopen, a range of public health, hygiene and physical distancing measures will be in place. Click here to learn more.
