Exploring the voices true to their own communities and experiences

About the artists

Led by cellist Louise Godwin and fiddler Jessica Foot, Big Fiddle Little Fiddle is both a performance duo and project vehicle for creative experimentation and collaboration. With diverse backgrounds in folk, traditional, improvisatory, baroque, classical and new music, the duo is known for its joyful performances, eclectic fiddling styles, classical sensibilities, driving rhythms, and inventive arrangements of original compositions.

About the concert

It has always been the role of folk music to reflect the cultural currents and climates of its era. The voices of each new generation challenge people to listen, to retune social practices, and to reassess the values and customs that have the power to bind or break.

Big Fiddle Little Fiddle’s in Primrose Potter Salon explores the voices true to their own communities and experiences, whilst offering their own words as a contribution to the conversation. With a strong emphasis on compositions by women, the program will articulate facets of the turbulent times now faced.

Joined by harpist and singer Claire Patti and emerging animator Sylvie Le Couteur, Big Fiddle Little Fiddle will present original and local works expressing conflict and change, hope and despair, passion, confusion and protest.
