Cameron Deyell / Laurence Pike – Isola

Cameron Deyell & Laurence Pike

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Cameron Deyell

Details

Italian for island, Isola represents the geographical isolation of their home in Australia.

Drawing from their 20 plus year history as collaborators and friends, New Zealand born, Melbourne based guitarist and composer Cameron Deyell (Liars, Sia) and Sydney drummer and producer Laurence Pike (Liars, PVT, Szun Waves, Triosk, Jack Ladder), have combined forces as a duo for the first time.

Isola echoes the jazz futurism of the 1970s – think Ralph Towner and Eberhard Weber’s excursions for ECM, Brian Eno’s self-generating experiments and the fourth world mysticism of Jon Hassell.

Italian for island, Isola represents the geographical isolation of their home in Australia. The record reflects not only on its remoteness but the profound influence of the open ocean, which separates one place from another.

Joined by friend and multi-instrumentalist Jasper Leak (Sia, Quincy Jones), their performance in Primrose Potter Salon celebrates the vinyl release of Isola on Endless Recordings.
