Gelareh Pour's Garden

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Gelareh Pour
Details
A new kind of all encompassing expression to Australia’s cross-cultural landscape.
About the artists
Iranian born, Persian Kamancheh and qeychak player, singer, songwriter and Choir director Gelareh Pour is known for her flexibility and interest in different cultures, genres and practices.
About the concert
Gelareh Pour’s Garden brings a new kind of diasporic expression to Australia’s cross-cultural landscape. Founded with the desire to express what it means to be from more than one place, Gelareh Pour presents a modern view of contemporary intercultural music, honouring her classical Persian background, whilst maintaining a practice of free expression.
Drawing influence from culture, language and composition, Gelareh Pour adapts ideas from Persian classical music and recontextualises them in new environments to create something previously unheard.
Their performance in Primrose Potter Salon promises an emotive and striking journey that feels far-off and familiar all at once.
Praise for Gelareh Pour’s Garden
‘Pour again demonstrated her ease and proficiency with kamancheh and qeychak, as well as the power of her voice, which flows from deep within her tiny frame without apparent effort, but with compelling effect.’ Aus Jazz
